PUBLIC SPACES

GUIDING PRINCIPLES

Public parks, plazas, and streets are where New Yorkers find each other. New Yorkers deserve public spaces that foster community and are welcoming for all. Too often our public spaces are in disrepair or feel unsafe, leading to disuse and further deterioration. Vibrant public spaces promote safety and sustain community connections. How can we make it possible to keep living in public, meeting our neighbors and new friends in our public back yards?

  • Support programming by local artists in community pocket parks and plazas that will encourage use by families in the least park-rich neighborhoods.

  • Develop community clean up and take back the street events.

  • Study use patterns to chart the future of pedestrianization and public plaza development.
